Hi – I’m Brian Horton. I started Simplicity Bath & Shower to offer YOU a different – and much better – bathroom remodeling experience.
When I began my remodeling career over 20 years ago, I was just out of college and convinced that the world made sense.
Over the next decade, I was shocked to see poor management, super-high-pressure selling, and downright incompetence at BOTH national home improvement brands and small, local contractors. What had looked like a straightforward line of work from the outside, was really more like the wild west on the inside. Every part of the business made my head spin!
As a whole, the industry basically operated like this: say whatever it takes to get a deposit, then do the work as cheaply as possible, to minimum “passable” standards, so they’ll pay the rest. Make up whatever excuses are necessary, and if the client has a problem with any of that, they’re the problem, not us.
As unsettling as it sounds, this line of thinking is what I saw first-hand, on a daily basis.
Working for those remodeling companies caused me to develop my theory of general mediocrity. I wish it was a joke, but this is still how many remodelers operate today (including the big names).
Instead of accepting that this was the way, I knew I’d HAVE to do something about it.
So, in 2014, when the bathroom franchise I was working for failed due to financial mismanagement, the time had come to start Simplicity.
Right out of the shoot, we were going to be different – and BETTER – than what I had witnessed. This meant we’d need to own and master our NICHE, instead of “doing it all” like most contractors.
The plan was pretty simple:
#1 As the owner, I’d provide daily leadership on every single job. Period.
#2 We would set and maintain HIGH standards – not hide behind low-bar “industry standards.”
#3 Communication between our teams, me, and my clients would be regular and on-point.
#4 If we made a mistake, it would be owned and corrected immediately.
#5 To prevent #4, we’d create and follow standard operating procedures on every job, and update them as we learned new things (this is where the MBA really came in hand!)
#6 To prevent long-term issues, we’d only work with robust materials, heavily preferring “Made in the USA”. This meant we’d never be the lowest price, and that’s OK. I preferred to sleep at night.
#7 My vendors, trade partners, and employees would be HELD ACCOUNTABLE to careful and technically-sound work, built to our specs, with no whining. If a product, person, or vendor didn’t fit, we’d cut and replace fast.
#8 I knew this straightforward, no-b.s. approach wouldn’t be easy, so we wouldn’t pretend to be the right bathroom remodeler for everyone. Our clients would be nice people, who wanted nice bathrooms AND a nice experience getting there.
This turned out to be much harder than I expected! In fact, it was constant work keeping all the pieces in place. But, I knew that if I could build a functioning business on these principles, and maintain them, then we would ultimately align with the right people, and continue to grow over time.
And that’s exactly what happened.
Almost 11 years later, we’ve worked with many wonderful clients, won some nice awards, and learned a few hard lessons. Most importantly, we’ve been blessed to build a legacy of bathroom remodeling excellence in Houston.
The path of least resistance (doing what everyone else does) definitely wasn’t the right one for us – and I’m glad we didn’t follow it. The above principles are still how we operate today. And that isn’t going to change.
Why fix what isn’t broken?
If you live in Greater Houston and are looking for an authentic, local, bathroom remodeler that’s absolutely dedicated to serving you properly, give my company a call. You won’t find another bathroom remodeler in Houston with the same level of passion and talent – I guarantee it.
See you out there!

P.S. The name Simplicity came from my strong desire to make bathroom remodels less complicated and annoying. Our #1 goal was a straightforward, TRANSPARENT process to help you avoid the hassles and frustration of hiring the wrong contractor. The hardest part of remodeling is getting all the right parts and people figured out, lined up, and working together. That’s where the real value is, and why prices are all over the place in this industry. Instead of simply wanting to sell more jobs like every other contractor, our goal has always been a smooth, consistent experience.
In our busy, complicated world, who couldn’t use a little more Simplicity?
